The Pursuit of Happiness

First of all, I would like to say Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Americans, and Happy Birthday to my country for being independent for 237 years!  God bless America {God help America, too.. but that’s a whole different post in itself..}

America has come a long, long, way since 1776.  We’ve upgraded electronics, but have downgraded education.  We have smart phones, but stupid people.

In our U.S. Constitution, these words are written:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. 

Now, the ignorant Americans of our day have taken this quote and said “ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. THERE’S THE PROOF!  GAY RIGHTS SHOULD BE ALLOWED!”  or “I HAVE MY RIGHT TO DO DRUGS, SMOKE, DRINK, ETC.!”

These “rights” should be in a Christian perspective.

But what I’m really writing this post about is this: The Pursuit of Happiness.  

What is happiness?  Do Americans even know anymore?  Is happiness constantly getting our way?  Is happiness getting the iPhone 5 instead of the iPhone 4s?  Get real.  I personally think everyone needs to hear the things I’m about to say {even myself, for that matter.}  Americans {especially the generation of today} have taken this phrase and completely molded it into what they want it to mean.  Their pursuit of happiness may be being a jerk to everyone to make themselves look better, buying the latest top name brand clothes, or making their dept become just as deep as America’s by purchasing the latest electronics.  What ever happened to the Pursuit of Happiness being something like this?:

Investing into other’s lives to help make everyone happy, not just yourself.

Being completely satisfied with what you have, and working at making what you already have better {as opposed to just trashing it and getting something new, or younger.}

Let me explain my last example with an example:

So a couple gets married, they’re soooo “in-love”.  They’re married, buy a house, have a kid or two, then– one of them realizes that there’s better out there.  It’s “their right” to be happy, and to have whatever pleases them.

My point is, why didn’t they just build up their spouse’s confidence or think of all their spouse does for them, instead of throwing them away like garbage?  Why can’t we be satisfied?

Proverbs 3:13-14 ~ Happy [is] the man [that] findeth wisdom, and the man [that] getteth understanding.  For the merchandise of it [is] better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

We live in the land of the free, home of the brave.  We have clean water, and more freedom than any other country on earth.  This nation was founded on Godly principals, but it seems that Americans think as if there’s something better than God– Many Americans are throwing Christ away as if He is just an old spouse.  The sin in our nation today is not the sin of our parents, it’s our sin, we need to realize that.  We need to humble ourselves, pray, and seek forgiveness.  I want to experience the America my parents and grandparents grew up in.  I want to live in the America that loves the Lord and can truly say “God Bless America” without it being just an old-fashioned cliche.  Nowadays I feel as if our prayer should not only be “God Bless America”, but also “God HELP America”.  We are turning from our founding father’s principals, from our God’s principals.  I say that it’s time to take a stand and bring them back.

2 Chronicles 7:14 ~ If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
