The Proverbs 31 Woman: Virtuous, Not Perfect

Like many girls and women, I always used to think “I will never be a ‘Proverbs 31’ woman, because I am not perfect.”  This outlook often overcomes us, making us fear to even read the chapter.  Many times we read it in a flash, because we are so afraid that our fear will turn into guilt since we are not perfect in any way.  The reason this chapter in Proverbs is so important is not because we need to be perfect, but because we need to be virtuous.  Being virtuous means that we have morals.  Having morals does not make us perfect by any means, now does it?  Therefore, being a “Proverbs 31 Woman” does not mean that we have to be perfect, just virtuous.  Have some morals about you and stand up for what you believe in!  The reason that the Proverbs 31 Woman is so significant and so famous is not because she is an all-arounder.  Her significance comes from putting her Lord and Saviour above all.  Although she loves her husband, children, friends, and home… she does not put her trust and faith in any of those things.  She longs to be who God wants her to be– to be virtuous.  His light shines so bright within her that she is always looked upon as “perfect”, but the only perfect thing about her, is God.

In order for me and you to be a Proverbs 31 Woman, all we have to do is focus on our relationship with Jesus Christ.  Is He our number one in everything?  Do we praise Him? Do we talk to Him?  Do we let HIM talk to US?  These four questions will sum up whether or not we are a true Proverbs 31 Woman.  Every girl can be the ideal woman of God, it is never too late.  The decision we must make is whether or not we truly want to be one.  God does not expect His children to be perfect, but He does expect us to live for Him.  How is that too much to ask?  After all, He is the one who sent His only Son to die for us.

With all of that said, now is the time to go and reread Proverbs 31 with a positive view.  Just think– You can be that kind of woman;  The kind of woman who fears the Lord and loves Him with her whole heart.  Just have faith and pray for God’s guidance through life’s journey.
